Wolves facing ‘big battle’ to keep £58k-a-week star at Molineux

Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves is attracting plenty of interest, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Barcelona, and Jones says the Midlands club now face a “big battle” to keep hold of him.

What is the latest news involving Neves?

SPORT (via Sport Witness) recently claimed that Barcelona are working on signing Neves ahead of the transfer window opening in January.

And it is a move the Portuguese player is unlikely to turn down after revealing he has a desire to play at the Spotify Camp Nou.

“If you ask in general, all players want to play for Barca,” Neves recently told Canal 11 (via 90min). “It’s one of the best clubs in the world. It’s a privilege for me to be linked to this team.”

This is not the first time there has been talk about Barcelona being interested in Neves, with reports in the summer previously claiming that they wanted to sign him to replace Sergio Busquets.

What has Jones said about Neves and Wolves?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Wolves now face a fight to keep hold of their midfielder.

Speaking to GMS about Neves, the journalist said: “He’s got plenty of interest in two or three countries and at clubs that are in the Champions League or at least knocking on the door to play in the Champions League.

“At the moment, the team he’s playing for are nowhere near that level, so they’ve done well to keep hold of him up to now, but it’d be a big, big battle to keep hold of him for any longer.”

Are Wolves really about to lose Neves?

It would not be a surprise. He has made it clear that he would love to play for a club like Barcelona, while his current employers are not doing too well at the moment.

With Steve Davis’ side really struggling in the Premier League right now, remaining at Molineux does not sound like the most appealing option for a player who is extremely talented.

As per FBref, Neves has ranked in the 92nd percentile for passes attempted, the 87th for interceptions and the 91st for clearances among his positional peers over the last year, so he is a midfielder who can do quite a lot.

It is no shock, then, that Barcelona want the £58,000-a-week Portugal international, but their interest comes at a very bad time for Wolves.
