£46k-a-week star now ‘weighing up options’ at Molineux

117-goal striker ‘should consider’ shock Molineux move

£46k-a-week star now ‘weighing up options’ at Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers is a destination Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo ‘should consider’ if he leaves Old Trafford due to his links to the club, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Ronaldo has once again become embroiled in controversy at Old Trafford and a departure now seems imminent – but could Wolves pull off a shock deal?

What is the latest on Ronaldo?

The 37-year-old – who has bagged 117 international goals – was dropped from the matchday squad entirely as United left it late to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Ronaldo was nowhere to be seen after he reportedly refused to come on as a late substitute against Tottenham Hotspur and left the stadium after heading back to the dressing room in the 89th minute.

When asked about his most high-profile player in the wake of the Chelsea game, Erik Ten Hag spoke of his desire to create the ‘right culture’ in the dressing room.

It all comes after a summer in which Ronaldo asked to leave the club as he looked to continue playing in the Champions League.

However, he failed to secure a move away but Ten Hag is now willing to sanction his departure in the future.

What has Jones said on his future?

Jones believes that Ronaldo should consider a move to Molineux due to the connections he has with the squad.

However, the journalist adds that the player’s ego and ambitions will likely mean it is a transfer he never considers.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “You’d consider clubs with Portuguese links or links to him personally. Wolves, for example. Would he be willing to go there? It seems like somewhere he should consider but I doubt he will. Sporting, if they lost their manager, would it then become more plausible that he’d go there? He’d have to take a massive pay cut – how would that affect his ego? There’s a lot to consider.”

Is there any chance Ronaldo would move to Molineux?

It seems very unlikely. Given the player’s desire to ply his trade in the Champions League, a move to Wolves would be a huge step in the wrong direction.

The West Midlands outfit sit in 19th place in the Premier League and have scored just five goals in 12 games this season. It is not exactly an exciting proposition, particularly as they continue to search for a new manager.

Yes, Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is heavily implicated in the Wolves project and yes, the club do boast plenty of Portuguese talent. But this is simply not a move that matches the ambitions of the player.
