234-game star now ‘regrets move’ to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea ace Denis Zakaria will ‘regret’ his move to Stamford Bridge and the club could look to send him back to Juventus in January, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The defensive midfielder was among the fresh faces as the west Londoners forked out more than £250million during the summer transfer window.

What’s the latest news involving Zakaria?

Zakaria made a deadline day move to Chelsea, joining on an initial season-long loan which has the option of being made permanent, but it seems his days in the Premier League may already be numbered.

That is because, according to 90min, the Blues are looking to terminate the 25-year-old’s temporary agreement at the turn of the year and a return to parent club Juventus is on the cards.

However, the report suggests the Italian side do not have an obligation to take Zakaria, who had already made two Serie A appearances during the early stages of the campaign, back ahead of schedule.

It is understood that Chelsea head coach Graham Potter and co-owner Todd Boehly were set to hold crunch talks with the September arrival this week.

But Potter has revealed that a final decision over Zakaria’s future has not been made yet and ‘he is waiting for his chance’.

What has Pete O’Rourke said about Zakaria?

O’Rourke believes Zakaria will be disappointed with how his move to Chelsea has played out and there is a possibility that he will return to Juventus ahead of schedule.

But the journalist feels the 42-cap Switzerland international may not be wanted by his parent club for the second half of the campaign, leaving him in a sticky situation.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “Obviously, there will be regret for Zakaria. This move hasn’t worked out.

“There is talk that Chelsea are already looking to cancel his loan in January and send him back to Juventus.

“But if Juventus were willing to let Zakaria leave, it sort of illustrated that they weren’t planning to use him too much this season either.”

Why could Chelsea cut Zakaria’s loan short?

Zakaria may have made 234 appearances over the course of his senior club career, but his opportunities at Chelsea have not been forthcoming.

He has still not made his debut for the Blues, which clearly emphasises that the midfielder is not at the forefront of Potter’s plans.

Thomas Tuchel brought Zakaria to Chelsea but was sacked just days later and that meant the late summer arrival was already facing an uphill battle.

Potter was appointed as the German’s successor and, unless he is able to turn the former Brighton & Hove Albion chief’s head before the World Cup gets underway next month, a move away from Stamford Bridge may be best for all parties.
