The Spanish Football Federation Competition Committee has decided to fine Barcelona for Joan Laporta’s visit to the referees’ dressing room at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu at the end of last Sunday’s El Clásico.
The Blaugrana suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Real Madrid. The Catalan side’s club president Laporta was not happy with some of the referee’s decisions, prompting him to make a visit to his dressing room.
Barcelona presented a plea requesting that there should be no sanction, as Laporta’s visit was not “to protest” but to “know his opinion regarding his decisions”.
The Competition Committee decided to impose the minimum sanction that they can issue as they interpret it as a minor offence, therefore leaving Barcelona to only pay a fine of €150.
Barcelona are currently trailing Real Madrid by six points in La Liga, but they have a game in hand. They are set to face Villarreal this evening, with kick-off scheduled at 9pm local time.
