Wolves set to approach Michael Beale to become their new head coach

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been searching for a new manager since sacking Bruno Lage earlier this month following their 2-0 defeat at West Ham United. 

They wanted to sign former Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui but the Spaniard turned down their offer because of his father’s health. 

The Midlands side also reportedly contacted former boss Nuno Espirito Santo and  recently departed Lyon coach Peter Bosz. However, they now look close to signing Michael Beale as their new manager. 

According to The Athletic, Wolves have made the 42-year-old as their number one target to replace Lage. 

Beale is currently managing at Queens Park Rangers, joining the West London outfit in the summer to succeed Mark Warburton.

The English boss has done an amazing job at QPR, leading them to sixth in the Championship table with seven wins from 14 matches. However, his contract at Loftus Road is believed to have a release clause and so he could leave the club soon. 

Beale was previously acting as assistant manager to Steven Gerrard at both Rangers and Aston Villa. 

The Wanderers are currently on the edge of the relegation zone following just two wins from their 11 matches this season. 

They were most recently in action at Crystal Palace in the Premier League, where they lost 2-1 despite scoring the first goal.  

Wolves invested heavily in the summer transfer window, signing the likes of Goncalo Guedes, Matheus Nunes, Sasa Kalajdzic and Diego Costa. 

But Lage failed to provide a good start at Molineux Stadium and the club decided to sack him at the beginning of October.
