Substituted at half-time, Bayern Munich today confirmed that Alphonso Davies has suffered a cranial bruise after being caught by Jude Bellingham’s boot on Saturday in Der Klassiker.
“The 21-year-old is feeling good in the circumstances but sat out training on Sunday,” read a statement on the club’s website. It’s unclear as to when Davies will return to training.
Speaking to ESPN after Bayern’s 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund, head coach Julian Nagelsmann said: “It was a really hard foul of Jude Bellingham. We have to send him off. Matthijs de Ligt is also injured.”
On Sport1’s Doppelpass, referee Deniz Aytekin explained his decision not to send Bellingham off: “If you look at this scene in isolation, without moments, then it’s a yellow card. But we as referees are always expected to have a certain empathy and feel for the situation. Of course, there was contact but Jude didn’t go it on purpose.”
