Bayern Munich and England international forward Harry Kane (33) has won the 2025-2026 Men’s Ballon d’Or with one of the smallest margins in the history of world football’s most famous individual prize, France Football can reveal. The outlet’s editor-in-chief, Vincent Garcia, said in the wake of Kane’s greatest moment that the gap between the winner and second-placed Kylian Mbappé was smaller than the 41-point margin between Rodri and Vinicius Jr back in 2024.
The Men’s Ballon d’Or is decided by 100 journalists – one from the top 100 nations in the FIFA rankings – who draw up their list of the ten best players from the past season. The player in first place receives 15 points, whilst the player in 10th place receives just one. In the end, Kane received 1055 points, 28 points more than Mbappé’s 1027.
Still, Kane’s triumph is close to unanimous. The detailed Ballon d’Or standings reveal that 40 out of the 100 hundred journalists picked the former Tottenham Hotspur as their No. 1 choice. As for Mbappé, only 23 football writers did so.
