Gary Neville Claims 2 Man Utd Players Should No Longer Start Together

Gary Neville has suggested that two players should not be starting together at Manchester United following their draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

On Saturday evening, United produced another dismal display as they threw away a 1-0 lead in stoppage time to draw 1-1 with struggling Spurs at Old Trafford.

Despite being second best for the majority of the match, the hosts went ahead through Bryan Mbeumo in the 71st minute. However, Michael Carrick’s men failed to see the game out as Dominic Solanke flicked in a Sandro Tonali cross to draw Spurs level in stoppage time.

As a result, United have recorded their worst start to a Premier League campaign, having only amassed six points from six matches.

Gary Neville Says Midfield Duo Youri Tielemans and Kobbie Mainoo ‘Not Dynamic Enough’

Speaking to Sky Sports after the final whistle, ex-United man Neville claimed that Youri Tielemans and Kobbie Mainoo should not be starting together in midfield.

Belgium international Tielemans endured a tough match and was replaced by summer signing Carlos Baleba, who impressed on his debut.

Speaking about the midfield duo of Tielemans and Mainoo, Neville stated that it is simply not ‘dynamic’ enough.

He said:

“I don’t want to be too drastic, but I’ve seen enough of it to think that’s not a midfield that is dynamic enough to play at this football club in the Premier League.

“I think they are both good players, by the way, individually, but sometimes you just have players who don’t quite knit together and don’t quite sort of suit each other.

“I think when Baleba came on with Mainoo, that certainty looked like there was a lot more energy. But there certainly has to be something done in there.

“The rest of them, they are going to have to get a grip because honestly, they are going to Atletico Madrid.”

Neville’s words were also echoed by fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, who believes that a midfield of Tielemans and Mainoo has become an ‘issue’ for Carrick.

He said: “In terms of how they played today, they have an issue with Tielemans and Mainoo in midfield; I do not see enough energy in there. Baleba will add a lot and will give them a tremendous amount of energy.”

Looking ahead, United will have to quickly forget about this latest disappointment as they will be travelling to Spain to take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
