This came after the Ivorian proved himself the decisive figure in a hard-fought victory for Los Blancos.
After welcoming Villarreal to Spain’s capital for their post-international break return to the pitch, José Mourinho’s troops ultimately emerged on the right side of a 1-0 result.
The aforementioned Yan Diomandé featured from the off in the fixture, a reward for his improving form over more recent weeks in the colours of his new club.
And just beyond the hour mark, the 19-year-old conjured up the game’s winning goal. Slipped into the Villarreal penalty area by Federico Valverde, Diomandé did superbly to swivel and pick out the far corner of the visitors’ net.
And as alluded to above, this proved enough for the summer arrival at the Bernabéu to beat out the competition to the Man of the Match award on Saturday night:
