After falling to a defeat in Piraeus in the league phase, Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick was happy to return tonight and claim a 2-0 on this occasion over Olympiacos in the knockouts.
“It was exactly the same difficulty as last time. We performed better but we had the same problem in the first half, having the chances but not scoring.
“We improved in the second half, scored two goals and kept the clean sheet, which was very important,” the Czechia international told UEFA.com in the mixed zone at full-time.
The 30-year-old marksman – since named as the man of the match by UEFA – was more than satisfied with his two goals on the night which secured the first-leg victory.
“As a striker, you have to be patient. Sometimes, you have to wait the whole match for one opportunity. You have to be ready – that’s the job of strikers. I was in the right place today.
“We had a difficult start after the [Bundesliga’s] winter break but we are improving a lot. Let’s see how far we can go [in the Champions League,” said Schick.
