Conor McGregor Confirms UFC Comeback Fight in Deleted Tweet

After nearly five years away from the Octagon, UFC superstar Conor McGregor has dropped a massive hint on his future in a now deleted tweet.

‘The Notorious’, who is now 37 years old, hasn’t fought since being beaten by Dustin Poirier in their trilogy fight at UFC 264 in July 2021. McGregor suffered a broken lower tibia in the bout, but few would have predicted at the time he would be inactive for so long afterwards.

The Irishman has repeatedly claimed to be on the verge of a comeback for many years. He was even due to face American rival, Michael Chandler, at UFC 303 in June 2024. However, just a matter of weeks before the fight, he withdrew from the advertised contest due to a toe injury.

Conor McGregor is Currently Banned From Fighting

Ironically, McGregor is currently unable to compete as he is serving an 18-month ban for an anti-doping violation. Interestingly, though, Conor will have served his punishment by the 20th of March, meaning he will be eligible to make his UFC return at any point after that date.

As mentioned, McGregor has been vocal about his desire to fight again. However, although he has made plenty of noise about a comeback, he has failed to actually sign a contract for a bout (except for his ill-fated clash with Chandler).

That appears to be on the verge of changing, according to a now-deleted tweet from the fighter himself. Having previously claimed that his UFC contract was ‘void’ due to the company’s decision to eliminate pay-per-view events, he has now seemingly agreed a return bout.

Conor McGregor’s Deleted Tweet on His UFC Future

Writing on Twitter/X, he declared: “I have been offered an opponent and a date and I accept. Waiting on my contract.”

The timing of the tweet could not be any more intriguing, with UFC CEO Dana White recently admitting that he has just finalised the card for the UFC’s landmark show at the White House.

In celebration of both America’s 250th birthday and the 80th birthday of President Donald Trump, the UFC will stage an event on the South Lawn of the White House. Trump hasn’t been shy in predicting how spectacular the card will be either, promising: “the biggest fights they [the UFC] have ever had. Every one’s a championship fight, and everyone’s a legendary type of fighter.”

In terms of raw star power, UFC fighters don’t come any bigger than McGregor. If his tweet is to be believed, it’s tough to imagine that he would have agreed to fight anywhere other than on the White House card.

Although Conor stopped short of naming the opponent he has agreed to face, names such as Nate Diaz and Colby Covington have expressed an interest in competing on the card. There is also always the chance that the long-awaited Chandler fight could be booked for what looks set to be the biggest fight card in UFC history.

While the main event of the UFC White House card has reportedly already been decided, it may well prove that McGregor is the biggest start on show come the 14th of June in Washington DC.
