After a week in which he had been “criticised and killed”, Désiré Doué provided the perfect response as he netted a brace off the bench to help Paris Saint-Germain sink AS Monaco at the Stade Louis II on Tuesday night (2-3).
Following a 3-1 defeat to Stade Rennais on Friday, Ousmane Dembélé came out and publicly criticised individualistic attitudes within the PSG squad. Whilst he did not cite Doué, the connection was drawn, and the young Frenchman was perceived at least as one of the targets of the Ballon d’Or winner’s ire.
“This past week, everyone has criticised and killed Doué,” said Luis Enrique in a post-match press conference attended by Get French Football News. It was quite the response, with the Spaniard calling Doué “sensational” against Monaco. “I am happy for him […] he helped the team at the best moment,” he added.
Replacing the seemingly injured Dembélé in the 27th minute, he scored within two minutes of his substitution to halve the deficit to 2-1, before netting the winner in the second half, receiving the MOTM award, and receiving a ‘9’ rating from GFFN.
