Borussia Dortmund have announced that centre-back duo Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle will miss their midweek game.
On Tuesday, Dortmund will host Atalanta in the first leg of their Champions League playoff before travelling to Bergamo next week.
Both Schlotterbeck and Süle were absent from training today due to a muscular issue and a thigh problem.
At the weekend, the 26-year-old was suspended for die Schwarzgelben’s 4-0 win against Mainz, while Süle played the first half but was substituted off at half-time due to already being on a yellow card and was replaced by Luca Reggiani.
Dortmund’s replacement options for Schlotterbeck and Süle:
The absence of two senior centre-backs gives Niko Kovac a selection headache. Heading into the game, it means the only fit natural senior centre-back is Waldemar Anton, while Emre Can, who can also play centre-back, is absent through injury too.
It will likely mean that Ramy Bensebaini will line up in the back-three alongside Anton, and potentially, Reggiani could be given his first start.
