Celtic forward Yang Hyun-Jun has been slammed for his ‘hopelessly ineffective’ performance against Kilmarnock, after Martin O’Neill hooked him at half-time on Sunday.
Celtic were perhaps fortunate to come away with three points against Kilmarnock after a disappointing performance in the opening 45 minutes. The Glasgow giants went into the break at 2-0 down, but they managed to turn things around in the second half, with Julian Araujo scoring a crucial 97th-minute winner in the Scottish Premiership title race.
O’Neill made a triple change at half-time, sending a big message to his starting XI after their dismal display. It’s safe to say the experienced manager got things right in the second half, but he won’t be best pleased with some of the performances on display in the opening 45.
Celtic Star Slammed as Martin O’Neill Makes Decision
Reacting after the game against Kilmarnock, 67 Hail Hail didn’t hold back with their analysis of Yang’s performance for Celtic. The midfielder was substituted at half-time, and it’s claimed he had ‘no excuses’ to produce such a poor display after being rested on Wednesday.
“There are no excuses for the poor showing Yang put up today.
Rested on Wednesday after being moved to the left wing against Dundee, he proved hopelessly ineffective before being hooked at the break.”
Yang’s performance was described as ‘hopelessly ineffective’, but thankfully for O’Neill, the Bhoys stepped things up in the second half. It was an incredibly important three points, especially with Hearts and Rangers facing each other later on the Sunday evening.
Celtic’s rivals Rangers secured an important 4-2 victory over Hearts at Ibrox on Sunday, meaning Celtic end the day three points behind the league leaders.
O’Neill Can’t Trust Him: 4/10 Celtic Star Becoming a ‘Real Issue’ After Livingston Win
There’s a reason Martin O’Neill doesn’t start him.
O’Neill Clearly Wasn’t Happy
O’Neill clearly wasn’t happy with the performance of Yang, and it’s no surprise. Yang was rested during the week against Livingston, so the Celtic boss will have been expecting a lot more from him in this game. Yang hasn’t done himself any favours in terms of being selected in the near future, especially as his replacement, Sebastian Tounekti, came off the bench to score Celtic’s first of the game.
Kasper Schmeichel was one player who received a lot of criticism for his involvement in some of the goals conceded, but Yang certainly let his side down at the other end of the pitch in the first half.
