Marc Cucurella was absent from Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Hull City in the FA Cup on Friday evening as a result of an injury picked up against Leeds United midweek, and the extent of his issue has now been revealed
Marc Cucurella could be out of action for up to four weeks, in a major injury blow for Chelsea.
The Spanish full-back was subbed off at half-time as the Blues played out a 2-2 draw with Leeds United on Tuesday evening, with Jorrel Hato stepping in. As Cucurella was also absent from Chelsea’s 4-0 FA Cup win over Hull City on the road on Friday night, concerns started to circulate with regard to the defender’s fitness.
Now, it has been claimed that the 27-year-old underwent tests on Thursday morning, with Liam Rosenior explaining after Friday’s clash at the MKM Stadium: “He has a hamstring problem. I can’t give you a return timeframe right now.”
Cadana SER, however, report that Cucurella could be out of action for between three and four weeks as a result of the hamstring injury, which will come as a tough pill to swallow as Chelsea look to finish the season strong.
If expectations ring true, Cucurella will miss his team’s upcoming outings with Burnley, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Newcastle United in the Premier League – a third of the just 12 matches that remain to be played.
If the left-back is out for the longer forecasted four weeks rather than three, he could also miss Chelsea’s round of 16 Champions League encounter with either Monaco, PSG, Qarabag or Newcastle, which will land on either March 10, 11, 17 or 18.
It comes as Chelsea shone without their first-choice left-back on Friday evening, Pedro Neto enjoying a hat-trick while Estevao also found the back of the net.

Cucurella wasn’t the only player absent from the cup tie either, with Rosenior forced to navigate a number of player injuries at present.
On top of Levi Colwill missing the entirety of the season as a result of an ACL injury sustained in the summer, Jamie Gittens, Filip Jorgensen, Dario Essugo and Romeo Lavia are also currently on the road to recovery.
Thankfully, the head coach will have a week to monitor his squad situation ahead of their next Premier League game.
Next up for Chelsea is a return to Stamford Bridge to take on a struggling Burnley side, who have won just four matches this season and were dumped out of the FA Cup on Saturday with a 2-1 loss to Mansfield Town.
Whether Scott Parker will still be in charge of the Clarets for the encounter, all things considered, remains to be seen.
