Speaking to media ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Champions League clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night, head coach Oliver Glasner has confirmed that the Bundesliga side will be without Mario Götze.
“Mario Götze is out,” said Glasner. “He’s in too much pain with his ankle but Kristijan Jakic will be involved again. He made a good impression in training. His absence is a shame but the quality of the players available makes me confident they’ll be able to compensate.”
Eintracht Frankfurt come into this game following an impressive 2-0 win over Bundesliga leaders Union Berlin. Glasner feels as though his players are ready for Antonio Conte’s side: “We’ve prepared well for Tottenham and their style of play.
“We showed the players longer video clips of how Tottenham operate and how we want to keep them at bay. That made up the majority of our preparation, we spent little time on the training pitch. We’re very happy going into our third Champions League game.”
Glasner added: “The team’s efforts in recent weeks fill me with confidence. The players have already shown on a number of occasions that they’re capable of going above and beyond. We’ll need to perform at the highest level, but the lads have my full confidence because they’ve done that time and time again.”
Eintracht Frankfurt lost their opening Champions League game against Sporting CP but responded well with a win in Marseille.
