While Leipzig are fully aware of Bayern’s ability, David Raum says there is reason to believe.

Bayern Munich is a daunting task for any club in Europe, and RB Leipzig and left-back David Raum know that better than anyone else. The previous matches between the two have ended 6-0 and 5-1 in the Bavarians favor. However, Leipzig aren’t already admitting defeat.

“We’ve seen that they’re vulnerable, for example against FC Augsburg,” said Raum in an interview on RB Leipzig’s website. “And they’ve also dropped points in Hamburg.”

Late January saw Bayern struggle, as they suffered their first defeat of the Bundesliga season at the hands of Augsburg, losing 2-1. One week later, Hamburger SV held Bayern to a 1-1 draw. Leipzig will hope to add to Vincent Kompany’s woes in the unpredictable Pokal.

“The cup has its own rules,” Raum said. “We want to make the impossible possible and beat Bayern at home in the cup.”

Despite the lopsided score, the recent 5-1 loss to Bayern is an example of how Leipzig can challenge Bayern. It was Raum who found Rômulo for the opener as Ole Werner’s side jumped to an early lead in Leipzig. Bayern stormed back, though, and scored five unanswered in the second half.

“We still have to take positives from that. We played one of our best halves of the year. Unfortunately, we lost our heads a bit after that, moved away from our game plan and it became too chaotic.”

While Bayern have shown weaknesses at times, it’s still going to be a difficult match on Wednesday. This season under Vincent Kompany, Bayern have looked like one of the best teams in the world. Raum is certainly aware.

“Bayern are operating on a different level at the moment, especially in Europe and in the Bundesliga,” said Raum.
