Travis Kelce’s NFL career will be over after Super Bowl LX, according to former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Brandon Stokley.
The Seahawks take on the New England Patriots on Sunday, but it is speculation around Kelce’s future that is making just as many headlines after the Kansas City Chiefs failed to make it four consecutive appearances at the Super Bowl with a third-placed finish in AFC West.
Kelce is due to marry his popstar girlfriend Taylor Swift later this year and Stokley had told the 36-year-old to call it quits and “go on tour” with his soon-to-be wife.
Speaking to BOYLE Sports, who offer the latest NFL odds ahead of the Super Bowl he said: “If I had to guess and speculate, I’d say it’s over. He’s played for a long time, he’s done it all, and now he’s going to get married this off-season. It’s time to live life, go on tour with Taylor Swift and just have fun. It’s hard to continue to grind, and the Chiefs were at the Super Bowl for three straight years. Those off-seasons are just longer, and you have a lot going on.
“As impressive as that was, it takes its toll on your football team and you finally saw it this past year. Travis Kelce gave it all. I thought he might be done after last year, but he gave it one more year.
“He’s not the same football player – still a good football player. He doesn’t have the same impact that he did three or four years ago. You just get to the point in your life where it’s a little bit too much and too hard. He’s got a great life going for himself right now, so go and enjoy it!
Seattle Seahawks For Super Bowl Win
As for Sunday’s Super Bowl, Stokley says he is “praying” for his old team to get the job done.
“I’m praying every night that the Seattle Seahawks win this football game,” he said. “The New England Patriots have haunted me for so long. I would have four Super Bowl rings if it wasn’t for the Patriots, and then they beat my Denver Broncos last week, so they continue to haunt me.
“I’m almost 50 years old and I still have bad dreams about them – cold sweats, waking up screaming about the New England Patriots and what they have cost me in my life. I can’t go for the Patriots. Let’s go Seahawks! I’ve got them winning 27-20, and Sam Darnold – what a turnaround, he’ll be the MVP.”
