Paul Scholes tells Arsenal honest reason for wanting them to win Premier League title

Man Utd legend Paul Scholes has made it clear which Premier League title challenger he would rather see lift the trophy this season – out of Arsenal and Man City.

Paul Scholes admits that he wants Arsenal to lift the Premier League title over rivals Manchester City – and his response on a podcast was decidedly forthright. Arsenal currently sit comfortably at the summit – holding a six-point advantage over second-placed City.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast alongside Nicky Butt, Scholes was questioned about which side he’d prefer to see crowned champions come May. His answer came without hesitation: “Arsenal,” he stated.

“But when you look at our choices, Man City, Liverpool, I know not so much Liverpool this year but Arsenal, it’s got to be Arsenal.”

Comedian Paddy McGuinness interjected with surprise: “I thought you’d want, I know it sounds crazy saying City, but they’re a Manchester team.”

The United legend’s response was emphatic and X-rated: “No! That’s the last team you’d want to win it. We f****** hate City.”

Arsenal secured a commanding 4-0 victory at Leeds in their last match, while City were pegged back to a 2-2 draw against Tottenham and Aston Villa suffered defeat at home to Brentford.

“Very, very happy obviously,” Arteta said after the win. “A very impressive performance, a very impressive result and in the context that we’ve done it.

“When you have the difficulty of the game and the opponent that we’re facing, with their recent form and the style of play that they have at the moment and the energy that the stadium brings, then the fact that after three results that didn’t go our way in the league, we really wanted to show how much we wanted it, and I think we’ve certainly done that today.”

Meanwhile, Scholes’ beloved Man Utd have made an impressive start under interim head coach Michael Carrick, stringing together three consecutive victories – notably against Arsenal and City, not to mention Fulham.

The run has propelled them into fourth spot in the Premier League table, following their third straight 3-2 triumph over Fulham at Old Trafford last weekend.
