Chelsea are set to make a late bid for a young French defender in the coming hours of the transfer window, according to reports – though it’s Tylel Tati who is the latest name to be linked, as opposed to Jeremy Jacquet, with the Blues making a bid for his services.
Chelsea have been quiet in the January transfer window, with their only incoming being youngster Yisa Alao from Sheffield Wednesday, and their only two exits have been Leo Castledine and former England international Raheem Sterling.
However, there is always transfer business at Stamford Bridge, as we’ve come to expect in recent years under Todd Boehly’s ownership – and that could see the Blues move for Tati.
Report: Chelsea ‘Submit’ £26million Bid for Tati
The report by French journalist Loic Tanzi, via X account BlueCoXtra, states that the Blues have submitted a bid of €30million (£26million) for Tati.
The Blues are in need of a defender, though their bid will fall short, with Nantes thought to have rejected the initial approach from the Champions League hopefuls.
Chelsea have been in the market for Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet in previous days, though any deal hasn’t quite progressed and now Liverpool have joined them in the race for the youngster.
With that in mind, the Blues have now seemingly submitted their effort for ‘excellent’ Tati to come into their backline, with a slight selection headache for new boss Liam Rosenior.
Tati made his debut for Nantes at the start of the season, and has been an almost regular feature for the club in Ligue 1 this season, failing to play all ninety minutes in just three games this season.
Chelsea Don’t Particularly Need to Buy a New Centre-Back
Although there is no denying that Tati is a superb young defender, there is the question of whether Chelsea really need him through the door.
Levi Colwill and Tosin Adarabioyo are suffering with injury, but Chelsea still have Benoit Badiashile, Jorrel Hato, Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana and Josh Acheampong who are able to play at centre-back.
Fabrizio Romano: ‘Amazing’ Forward now ‘Close to Joining Everton’
A late window deal for the Toffees
Mamadou Sarr is out on loan at Strasbourg, whilst young Argentine defender Aaron Anselmino has been recalled from his loan at Borussia Dortmund, and Axel Disasi is in limbo over his future despite bids from West Ham United and AC Milan.
All in all, the Blues have an abundance of centre-backs, and it’s hard to see where Tati would fit in with his development. Acheampong, Hato, Anselmino and Colwill especially are some top young defenders and giving them a chance over Tati should be Rosenior’s priority in the coming weeks.
