Horst Steffen is no longer the head coach of SV Werder Bremen.
The Bundesliga side confirmed on Sunday that the 56-year-old has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.
The decision follows Saturday’s 1–1 draw with Borussia Mönchengladbach, a result that extended Werder’s winless run in the Bundesliga to ten consecutive matches.
“It was a tough decision, but we are no longer convinced of the fact that Horst was the person to spark the team’s turnaround following this long run without victory. This realisation was a bitter pill to swallow, since we truly value Horst; however, this is the result reached after analysis of our sporting situation and recent discussions. Therefore, we have decided to relieve Horst of his duties”, said managing director for sport Clemens Fritz.
Steffen was appointed head coach last summer, taking over from Ole Werner.
