Crystal Palace have not given up hope of landing Angers striker Sidiki Cherif before the transfer deadline, according to Sky Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The Eagles are anticipating a busy end to the January window as they seek further reinforcements to Oliver Glasner’s frontline, which has already seen Brennan Johnson and Evann Guessand arrive.
Guessand joined Palace on loan with a conditional obligation to buy after struggling to impress in his first six months at Aston Villa, where he scored just twice in 21 appearances.
Palace are believed to be in the market for a new striker, but a move for Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen has stalled in recent days.
Palace Still Keen on Sidiki Cherif
According to Tavolieri, Palace are trying again to sign Cherif before the deadline, despite the 19-year-old choosing Fenerbahce as his preferred destination this month.
Negotiations between the Turkish club and Angers are not progressing as expected, with the French side wanting Fenerbahce to match the payment terms that were offered by Palace.
Palace could bring in a new striker as a replacement for unsettled Jean-Philippe Mateta, who is aiming to depart Selhurst Park ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.
The France international is believed to have earmarked AC Milan as his preferred destination, with an agreement over personal terms already in place.
Mateta has been Palace’s top scorer for the past two-and-a-half Premier League seasons, netting 38 times since the start of the 2023/24 campaign.
Palace Working on Strand Larsen Deal
Palace are still working on a deal to sign Strand Larsen ahead of the transfer deadline, despite initial reports suggesting the club were ready to walk away from the move.
According to Sky Sports News, the Eagles have not completely walked away from the deal, with talks still ongoing between the parties over a late-window move.
Palace were close to completing a £50m move for Strand Larsen on Thursday, which would have made the 25-year-old the club’s record signing.
Oliver Glasner’s side have already broken their transfer record once this window, welcoming Johnson in a £35m deal from Tottenham.
