Koke has become the player with the most appearances in the history of Atlético Madrid.
In Atlético’s match against Sevilla on Saturday, the club captain made his 554th appearance for the club, surpassing Adelardo Rodríguez (553). Next on the list are Pedro Tomás (483), Enrique Collar (468) and Carlos Aguilera (456).
Koke came through the Rojiblancos’ youth ranks and made his first-team debut in the 5-2 defeat to Barcelona in September 2009. In total, he has made 392 appearances in La Liga, 41 in the Copa del Rey, 84 in the Champions League, 29 in the Europa League, six in the Spanish Super Cup and two in the European Super Cup.
During his 13 years with Atlético, the Spain international has won eight major trophies, including La Liga in 2014 and 2021, as well as reaching two Champions League finals.
The Atlético captain admitted on Friday that his idea is to finish his career with Atlético.
“My idea has always been to retire here but we’ll see what happens when my contract is up. I have two years left, this one and one more, and my idea is to stay here. I don’t know what will happen,” he said.
