As reported by Dutch news outlet Voetbal International, FC Schalke 04 are interested in Jasper Schendelaar from PEC Zwolle.
According to the website, the Gelsenkirchen side have had the 25-year-old shot-stopper on their radar for years.
The goalkeeper’s contract expires in summer, but a free transfer is unlikely given Zwolle has an option to extend his deal for another year.
A departure at the end of the current 2024-25 season is considered possible – knee and thigh problems have hindered his campaign so far.
He has featured in just two Eredivise games to date in the form of two 2-2 draws against NAC Breda and NEC Nijmegen in October.
Should he join Schalke, Schendelaar would likely have to settle for the role of challenger to first-choice goalkeeper Loris Karius.
However, it wouldn’t be surprising if Schalke saw him as capable of becoming their number one in the long term.
It remains to be seen if the Royal Blues will look to offer 1.FC Heidenheim loanee Kevin Müller a permanent contract when loan expires.
