Jean-Philippe Mateta has been linked with a move away from Crystal Palace in the winter transfer window, with reported interest from Juventus and Aston Villa.
Palace have placed a €40m valuation on the French striker, discouraging Juventus, who have now identified Youssef En-Nesyri as their primary alternative.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano now reports that Mateta has told Palace that he wants to leave the club this month.
He said on his YouTube channel: “Jean-Philippe Mateta has communicated his decision to Crystal Palace today, informing the club that he wants to leave during the January transfer window.
“Palace now face a key decision: keep the striker or allow him to depart, with Aston Villa and Juventus both interested in the player.”
Palace recently sold captain Marc Guehi to Manchester City, and may be reluctant to lose another key player in the same window.
Mateta’s contract expires in the summer of 2027, and Palace could still get a sizable fee for him next summer.
The South London outfit must keep the Frenchman to finish the season on a high note.
Palace need him to stand a chance of winning the UEFA Conference League and secure European qualification for the second consecutive season.
Mateta has featured in 33 games across all competitions this season, contributing 10 goals and two assists, making him the club’s top goal contributor.
