West Ham Hold Talks to Sign Coventry Star Bobby Thomas in January

West Ham United are interested in signing Coventry City defender Bobby Thomas in January, according to the Daily Mail.

The London Stadium side have reportedly added the highly rated centre-back to their list of defensive targets as they seek to bolster Nuno Espirito Santo’s backline before the transfer deadline.

West Ham have already welcomed forwards Pablo and Taty Castellanos this month and have now shifted their focus to improving other areas of the underperforming squad.

Thomas has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs this month, including Everton, where he started out as a schoolboy.

West Ham Keen on Bobby Thomas

According to the Daily Mail, West Ham have discussed a move for Thomas amid his standout Championship campaign under manager Frank Lampard.

The ‘exceptional’ 24-year-old has been one of Coventry’s most important players in their push for Premier League promotion this season, starting 22 league games and registering five goal contributions.

Thomas joined Coventry from Burnley in the summer of 2023 and has made 118 appearances for the club since, scoring nine goals and producing five assists.

West Ham are believed to have several alternatives to the 24-year-old on their shortlist, including Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles and Sporting Braga defender Bright Arrey-Mbi.

The Hammers are also long-term admirers of Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell, who is now close to joining Wolfsburg.

Why West Ham Need a New Defender

Nuno Espirito Santo

West Ham’s interest in Thomas is hardly surprising, given how lacklustre the Hammers have been at the back this Premier League campaign.

The London Stadium side have conceded more goals (43) than any other Premier League side and are on a run of 10 games without a win, taking just four points from a possible 30.

Since appointing Espirito Santo in September, West Ham have won just three of their 17 games across all competitions, including a victory over QPR in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.

The Hammers next visit Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, before hosting Sunderland the following weekend.

Celtic Make Callum Wilson Enquiry

Celtic have made an enquiry for West Ham striker Callum Wilson amid his potential free-transfer departure, GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs has revealed.

The 33-year-old has no shortage of suitors in Europe and Saudi Arabia, as West Ham are open to the idea of terminating his contract following the arrivals of Pablo and Castellanos in January.
