Israel Adesanya is set to make a stunning return to the UFC Octagon on the 28th of March, as confirmed by UFC boss Dana White in a stunning announcement via Instagram on Tuesday.
‘The Last Stylebender,’ a former middleweight champion, has not fought in almost a year and will hope to rebound from a three-fight losing skid, having challenged for the title as the pound-for-pound No.1-ranked fighter in the entire organization during his prime years on the roster.
Adesanya is renowned for his brutal war with Kelvin Gastelum, knockout win against Robert Whittaker, and his rivalries with Paulo Costa and particularly Alex Pereira, but after losses to Sean Strickland, Dricus du Plessis, and Nassourdine Imavov, Adesanya has had to regroup and, should he triumph in his return in the coming months, could launch another run at the middleweight title.
Speaking on the 13th of January, White confirmed who he’ll be fighting.

Israel Adesanya Comeback Confirmed
In a social media announcement, White said Adesanya will headline the UFC’s event in Seattle late-March when he takes on the Contender Series star and surging 185-pounder Joe Pyfer.
Elsewhere on the card, Alexa Grasso will fight Maycee Barber in what is shaping up to be a strong double-header for the show.
The Adesanya vs Pyfer headliner, a Fight Night-branded event, will be the UFC’s ninth of the year as it kickstarts its new broadcast relationship with Paramount+ worth $7.7 billion over 7 years.
The event drew mixed commentary from UFC fans online. Responses on the UFC’s official Instagram account, which confirmed the two fights, mostly attracted positive posts like, “Good fight”, “The king is back”, and “Izzy shows him levels.”
However, on X, the response was far more scathing. “The most pathetic announcement yet,” one poster said. “Paramount era is just going to be last year’s s***-show ongoing. The sport is cooked.”
Ahead of Adesanya’s return to the cage there are other big-name fighters headlining with Justin Gaethje fighting Paddy Pimblett on the 24th of January, Alexander Volkanovski rematching Diego Lopes on the 1st of February, and Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira fighting for a second time for the BMF title on the 7th of March, among other bangers.
