Man Utd Agree Deal to Appoint Michael Carrick as New Manager

Manchester United have reached an agreement in principle to appoint Michael Carrick as the new interim head coach until the end of the season, journalist David Ornstein has revealed.

The Old Trafford side are reportedly expected to confirm Carrick and his proposed coaching staff in time for the Manchester derby on Saturday at Old Trafford.

Carrick is set to take over interim duties from his former teammate Darren Fletcher, who oversaw two games in charge after replacing Ruben Amorim last week.

GIVEMESPORT reported on Monday that Carrick had overtaken Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the race for the Old Trafford vacancy following face-to-face talks over the weekend.

According to Ornstein, Man United have reached an agreement in principle with Carrick and his coaching staff to take over at Old Trafford until the end of the season.

Carrick, who spent 12 years at Old Trafford during his playing career, also spent three years with United as an assistant coach, working under both Jose Mourinho and Solskjaer.

The former midfielder briefly acted as interim boss following Solskjaer’s sacking in November 2021, overseeing three games and winning twice.

Carrick left the club after Ralf Rangnick was appointed interim head coach until the end of the 2021/22 season.

He was appointed at Championship side Middlesbrough in October 2022, guiding them to finishes of fourth, eighth and 10th in his three seasons at the Riverside Stadium.
