Just around half a year after his transfer from 1. FC Köln to Southampton, Damion Downs could move back to Germany.
According to Bild, the 21-year-old striker is open to a winter move back to the Bundesliga, with Werder Bremen and Hamburger SV both showing interest.
Werder are said to have already opened talks with Downs over a potential loan deal, although an agreement is still some way off.
However, HSV may hold an advantage in the race, as Southampton are keen on signing goalkeeper Daniel Peretz on loan.
The 25-year-old, currently on loan at Hamburg from Bayern Munich, would need to have his spell at HSV cut short in order to make the move to England.
