Vitor Roque has been in sensational form since joining Palmeiras in February, scoring 16 goals in Brazil’s Serie A as Chelsea and Manchester United monitor the Brazilian striker
Ex-Barcelona forward Vitor Roque has reportedly piqued the interest of Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window. The 20-year-old, who made the switch to Brazilian outfit Palmeiras in February, is already being linked with a move due to his standout performances.
Earlier this month, it was suggested that Roque’s representatives are anticipating offers around €50million (£44m) come the new year. Now, Sky Sports Switzerland reports that Manchester United and Chelsea are seen as the frontrunners, with the latter allegedly ‘working to recruit’ the young talent.
While United are said to be interested, Chelsea’s efforts are described as being ‘much more concrete’.
Roque is seen as a long-term addition for the Blues, aligning with their tradition of investing in youthful prospects.
However, it’s expected that Palmeiras will resist any advances.
As per Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, numerous clubs have approached Palmeiras to enquire about his availability, some even ‘offering more’ than the £22m fee they shelled out for him.
The club’s board has made it clear that they’re not open to negotiations at present.
The same publication also reveals that Roque has previously rejected a €35m (£31m) move to Saudi Arabia, believing it wouldn’t serve his best interests.
As for Roque himself, with the World Cup just around the corner, he expressed at the conclusion of the Brazilian season that he plans to remain at Palmeiras.
“I’m very happy at Palmeiras,” he said earlier this month.
“I think today I’m focused here and, of course, there will always be interest, there always will be, but right now my desire is to stay.
“I’ve already had an offer from Saudi football, yes, but we felt it wasn’t the right time, and the same goes for teams in Europe from the first to the second division.
“But I feel that now is not the right time. I’m happy at Palmeiras, focused on Palmeiras, and that’s what matters most as we head into 2026.”
The forward netted 16 goals in Brazil’s Serie A last season, featuring from the start in 24 of a possible 33 matches.
