Another chapter in FC Bayern Munich’s record-chasing season takes them to the Voith-Arena, where underdogs Heidenheim welcome the Bundesliga’s most dominant side. With Bayern unbeaten away from home in 2025 and Harry Kane closing in on yet another landmark, the hosts face a daunting task as they look to spring a surprise despite their ongoing attacking struggles.
Here are some interesting statistics about the game, along with team news and our predicted starting lineups:
Form and statistics
The contrast between the two sides is big. Bayern boast the best attack in the Bundesliga, having scored a remarkable 51 goals so far – an average of 3.64 per game and a new league record after 14 matchdays. Heidenheim, by comparison, have found the net just 13 times and share the “honour” of the weakest attack in the division alongside Mainz and St. Pauli.
Bayern’s dominance has not been limited to the Allianz Arena: They are unbeaten in their last 15 Bundesliga away matches in 2025, recording 11 wins and four draws. For only the third time in their history – after 1986 and 2013 – Bayern could complete a full calendar year without losing a single away league game.
With 38 points from their first 14 Bundesliga fixtures, Bayern are also enjoying their second-best start to a league season ever. Only the 2015/16 side, which collected 40 points at the same stage, have done better.
Kane chasing history
Once again, much of the spotlight will be on Harry Kane. The England captain has already been directly involved in 99 Bundesliga goals in just 77 matches (80 goals, 19 assists). One more contribution would see him reach the 100 mark in his 78th appearance – faster than any player since detailed data collection began in 2004/05. For context, Arjen Robben previously held the record, needing 119 games to reach the same milestone.
An intriguing matchup
Interestingly, Heidenheim have been something of a statistical outlier for Bayern. The Bavarians have scored more goals against Heidenheim than against any other current Bundesliga side, averaging 3.5 goals per game. At the same time, they have also conceded more goals against Heidenheim (1.75 per game) than against any other team in the league – a reminder that this fixture has produced goals at both ends.
Team news
Heidenheim head coach Frank Schmidt will have to make do without two attacking options, as Budu Zivzivadze and Nick Rothweiler are both ruled out for the visit of the Rekordmeister. Their absences further limit an already stretched Heidenheim frontline that has struggled for goals this season.
Bayern’s injury list, meanwhile, is unusually long. Jamal Musiala, Manuel Neuer, Sacha Boey, Konrad Laimer, Joshua Kimmich and Kim Min-jae are all sidelined with injury problems, while Nicolas Jackson is unavailable due to his Africa Cup of Nations involvement. There was also some doubt about Michael Olise’s being fit in time for the match, as he is said to have had eye surgery midweek; but FCB coach Kompany has confirmed his participance for the match on Saturday’s press conference.
Predicted lineups
Heidenheim (5-4-1):
Ramaj – Traoré, Busch, Mainka, Siersleben, Föhrenbach – Ibrahimovic, Dorsch, Niehues, Beck – Pieringer
FC Bayern (4-2-3-1):
Urbig – Stanisic, Upamecano, Tah, Guerreiro – Goretzka, Pavlovic – Karl, Gnabry, Díaz – Kane
Outlook
On paper, Bayern arrive as overwhelming favourites, armed with historic numbers, relentless form and a striker on the brink of another milestone. Yet Heidenheim’s previous encounters with Bayern suggest they may still find a way to make life uncomfortable. Whether that will be enough to stop a Bayern side chasing records on multiple fronts remains the key question heading into Sunday’s clash.
