At the age of just 17, Lennart Karl has enjoyed a breakthrough season at Bayern Munich.
According to German journalist Sebastian Leisgang, he could have ended up at Real Madrid when he was just 10 years old.
Speaking on the SZ podcast “Und nun zum Sport”, Leisgang revealed that Karl took part in a trial with the Spanish giants in 2018, while he was still playing in Eintracht Frankfurt’s youth academy.
“Things didn’t work out with Real Madrid back then,” Leisgang said.
“His father later told me that he was actually quite relieved it didn’t happen, because he had the feeling it wasn’t really about his son, but rather about negotiating contracts for major agent agencies. That’s why it fell through – and the family certainly doesn’t mourn it now.”
Karl eventually joined Bayern Munich’s academy in 2022.
