Liverpool’s Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett will be back in action at UFC 324 as he faces Justin Gaethje at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada with the UFC lightweight championship on the line.
Gaethje enters the Octagon following victory in March against Rafael Fiziev and aims to become interim UFC lightweight champion for the second time.
‘The Baddy’, meanwhile, is unbeaten in his last nine bouts, with his last coming in April this year. A TKO victory over Michael Chandler at UFC 314 set up a meeting with former champion Gaethje, and potentially the toughest test of the Liverpudlian’s career to date. Although a tough fight is predicted, a man who has both faced and defeated Justin Gaethje has offered his insight into what the Brit must do in order to emerge victorious.
Eddie Alvarez Gives Advice to Paddy Pimblett
Eddie Alvarez handed Justin Gaethje his first UFC defeat back in December 2017. A vicious knee strike to the chin felled the latter, ending a gruelling contest with both men virtually out on their feet. Now, Alvarez believes that if Pimblett alters his approach in the upcoming battle, the British fighter will secure the win.
While appearing on ‘The Bohnfire’ presented by Mike Bohn, Alvarez highlighted Pimblett’s strength in scrambles as a possible window of opportunity against the unpredictability of Gaethje.
“You can’t just spar with your friends and your teammates and think you’re ready for a Justin Gaethje fight. You have to get out of your element and have guys get in your face and stand in the pocket and come after you so you can get ready for this kind of pace and this kind of pressure.”
Tony Ferguson Backs Paddy Pimblett to Beat Justin Gaethje
Another fighter that has been in with both Pimblett and Gaethje revealed his prediction on the outcome of the 24th of January contest. Tony Ferguson declared support for Pimblett as the ‘new kid on the block’ with fears that Gaethje’s frustrations at falling short of undisputed status may cost him this time around.
“Paddy wins the [fight] only because Justin doesn’t want another interim belt… Paddy’s not bad, dude. Paddy’s not bad. He’s very beatable. And Gaethje is very beatable as well… But when it goes into the passion and how upsetting Justin Gaethje has always been about not getting that real title shot, and they just keep dangling right there again. I mean, Paddy’s in for a new treat, right? Paddy’s the one that’s never fought for a belt,” Ferguson revealed on the Ariel Helwani Show.
Preparations continue for both fighters as the clock ticks down towards what is set to be an epic contest. Eddie Alvarez maintains that it is all in the preparation for Paddy Pimblett to achieve championship status by firmly removing himself from his comfort zone pre-fight.
“If Paddy does that, he’ll be able to make adjustments and learn how to deal with someone like Justin in his training camp, but if he waits for the night of the fight, it could be too late for a guy like Justin.”
