Hamburg striker Robert Glatzel to miss the rest of 2025 with thigh muscle tear

Hamburg striker Robert Glatzel’s celebrated Bundesliga renaissance has regrettably been cut short. Shortly scoring his first Bundesliga goal in over four years during this weekend’s upset victory over Stuttgart, Glatzel had to be subbed off with a thigh injury. Hamburg revealed on Tuesday that additional examinations revealed a torn muscle fiber. Glatzel will be out through the winter break.

Hamburg must contest three league and one cup fixture before the turn of the calendar year. Options at the striker position remain thin. Captain Yussuf Poulsen remains out injured. It looks to be the case that German-Ghanaian striker Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer will not be called up for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations, but the 24-year-old has not been able to deliver solid performances since scoring his own inaugural Bundesliga goal three rounds ago.

Hamburg face a tough schedule before the winter break hits. Regional rivals Holstein Kiel await in the Pokal this week. After that, fellow Hanseatic city-state Werder Bremen must be faced in the league. Hoffenheim and Eintracht Frankfurt are the remaining two teams on the Bundesliga docket this season. Failure to accrue points in the remaining three league fixtures could lead to the HSV spending the winter break in the relegation zone.
