Lazio Open to Selling Wolves Target Christos Mandas in Cut-Price January Deal

Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas is available in January for around £10m-£12m, GIVEMESPORT can reveal.

Wolves were keen on the 24-year-old Greek international over the summer, but Lazio wanted up to £22m (€25m). As the winter window approaches, Mandas’ price has dropped significantly as the Serie A club seek funds to balance their books.

Lazio were hit with a summer transfer ban and are expected to be busy in January if given the green light to make new additions following a frustrating summer. The lifting of their transfer ban is contingent on getting their finances in order, although the club are confident they will be able to bring in new players.

Mandas is contracted until 2029 but open to a move away having failed to make a Serie A appearance this season.

He joined Lazio in summer 2023 from OFI Crete and made 20 appearances last season, but is currently behind Ivan Provedel in the pecking order. Mandas was a favoured option for former Lazio manager Marco Baroni, but has only made the bench under former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.

Selling Mandas could suit all parties in January and a fresh Wolves approach is not discounted. Wolves are expected to back new manager Rob Edwards in the market and adding a new goalkeeper is one priority.

It is perhaps not as pressing as finding a new central midfielder or even another attacker, but Jose Sa, Sam Johnstone and Dan Bentley are all 32, so the club want to add a younger shotstopper in 2026.

Valencia and Galatasaray were also keen on Mandas over the summer and could potentially revisit their interest. Further clubs are expected to approach Lazio in January given Mandas, who has been capped twice for Greece, could be one of the best value market opportunities of the winter window.
