Paris Saint-Germain are planning to submit an offer for Dayot Upamecano if he decides not to extend his contract with Bayern Munich (h/t RMC Sport).
A drawn-out contract saga involving the French defender at Bayern is unfolding, fuelling speculation over his future.
Upamecano’s current deal expires at the end of this season, and the Bavarians are working hard to extend his stay.
However, there hasn’t been any significant development in the renewal talks, with Upamecano holding out on Bayern’s offer.
The Bundesliga champions have tabled a lucrative five-year deal with an increased salary until 2031, which will make him one of the club’s top earners.
However, the Frenchman’s camp are demanding a substantial signing bonus worth around €20 million. It is proving to be a sticking point in the negotiations.
Bayern are not giving up and are confident they can eventually secure his long-term future.
Upamecano’s situation has caught the attention of Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter Milan. However, PSG are aiming to steal a march on their rivals.
Having paid €63 million for Ukrainian centre-back Illia Zabarnyi this summer, PSG plan to bolster their defence by signing Upamecano on a free transfer.
The French international is currently performing at the peak of his powers, playing a central role in Bayern’s stellar form this season.
He will have impressed PSG with his solid display in Bayern’s recent 2-1 victory over them in the Champions League.
With Marquinhos showing signs of decline and Lucas Beraldo linked with an exit, Upamecano would be an influential signing for PSG.
