Germany is renowned for their youth development, whether that’s within youth academies of their respective clubs, or within the German national team setup.
Speaking in Wednesday’s press conference, Bayern Munich defender Jonathan Tah spoke on the hype that surrounds young players: “It’s extremely important to give them time and protect them.
“These days, hype builds quickly thanks to social media; it wasn’t so extreme back then.
“Young players deserve praise when they perform well, but you have to team them to stay true to themselves because if you focus too much on the hype, it will drag you down again.
“It’s important to have a stable environment and stay grounded.”
In Julian Nagelsmann’s current Germany squad, there are nine players aged 23 or younger: Noah Atubolu (Freiburg), Nathaniel Brown (Eintracht Frankfurt), Florian Wirtz (Liverpool), Karim Adeyemi (Borussia Dortmund), Aleksandar Pavlović (Bayern Munich), Kevin Schade (Brentford), Assan Ouédraogo (RB Leipzig), Nick Woltemade (Newcastle United) and Said El Mala (1. FC Köln).
