Monaco make Clément Akpa approach

AS Monaco have made an approach for AJ Auxerre defender Clément Akpa (23), according to a report from Foot Mercato.

Monaco have been hampered by injuries so far this season, particularly in defence. Whilst Caio Henrique recently returned from a minor injury, Eric Dier, Vanderson, and Christian Mawissa have all been sidelined. Dier and Vanderson could return soon.

Les Monégasques have been in the market for a ‘joker’ signing and hhad shown an interest in Stade de Reims’ Abdul Koné. However, Les Stadistes did not let the defender leave and he since renewed his contract.

Nantes also interested in Akpa

An approach has now been made for Akpa, however, Auxerre will not let him leave outside of the transfer window. Monaco were prepared to offer a good sum for the player, with L’AJA valuing the Ivorian at €10m. The Principality club could renew their approach in January, but could face competition from FC Nantes, as well as unnamed clubs from Spain and Italy, as per Foot Mercato.
