Wolfsburg set to part ways with head coach Paul Simonis – leaves the club with one win in their last 11 games

Sky Germany and Bild reports that Wolfsburg are set to part ways with head coach Paul Simonis following their 2-1 loss to Werder Bremen on Friday.

The loss at Bremen saw Wolfsburg allow two late goals for the hosts to win the game, and the result has left them in 14th, at the time of writing. 

Now it has been decided that Wolfsburg will part ways with the Dutch head coach. Under-19 head coach Daniel Bauer will now take charge while a successor is found. Former Hamburg and Hull head coach Tim Walter is one of the candidates linked to the role, as is ex-Union Berlin head coach Urs Fischer. 

Simonis is the third head coach to be sacked this season, following compatriot Erik ten Hag’s dismissal at Bayer Leverkusen and Gerardo Seoane’s sacking at Borussia Mönchengladbach. 

Problems in the Wolfsburg hierarchy: 

Simonis is not the only person who could leave the Autostadt side. Sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz is facing criticism due to his decision-making, as is Peter Christensen, the managing director of sport.

Both have been involved in vast amounts of money being spent over the past couple of seasons, and no on-pitch success to show for it either.
