Dana White Reveals Greatest UFC Welterweight of All Time — SNUBS Georges St-Pierre

On Saturday, the 15th of November, Jack Della Maddalena will make the very first defence of his undisputed UFC welterweight title against Islam Makhachev, who is making his debut at 170lbs in the main event of UFC 322. With Makhachev moving up in weight, it means the already stacked UFC welterweight division is just getting stronger, even though right now it is probably the most talented division in all of MMA, as the division has been for quite a long time, no matter the generation.

The UFC welterweight title has an incredibly prestigious lineage, and that is mainly down to the fact that the legendary Georges St-Pierre dominated the division for over six years, becoming one of the pound-for-pound greatest fighters of all time in the process of that iconic run. ‘Rush’ holds the record for the most title defences in the division’s history with a whopping nine, which still to this day is a number which no champion at 170lbs has come close to, and that will most likely stay the case for years to come.

Although St-Pierre is not only considered the welterweight GOAT by plenty of MMA fans, but one of the greatest fighters of all time, UFC president Dana White doesn’t seem to hold him in as high regard as other UFC greats. During a recent behind-the-scenes video he filmed for the Pound 4 Pound podcast, the UFC boss shockingly snubbed St-Pierre when naming who he thinks the greatest welterweight in UFC history is.

Dana White Picks Kamaru Usman as the Greatest UFC Welterweight Ever

Kamaru Usman in the UFC

Although Georges St-Pierre almost always pops up in the conversation when people are discussing who the MMA GOAT is, UFC president Dana White doesn’t even think the Canadian is the welterweight GOAT. St-Pierre may hold the record for most title defences in the division’s history by quite a significant margin, but White has named Kamaru Usman as the greatest welterweight fighter in the promotion’s history.

Recent behind-the-scenes footage of White with both Usman and Henry Cejudo, who are the hosts of the Pound 4 Pound podcast, was released, and the UFC boss claimed he would be willing to debate with absolutely anyone who disagrees with his opinion about ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ being the UFC’s welterweight GOAT.

White said the following:

“You heard all the things that I said about you with your ‘30 per cent’ comment, and now I’m sitting here today, and I’ll f****** whoever wants to debate it with me, that you’re the greatest welterweight of all-time,

Kamaru Usman before a UFC bout

The ’30 per cent’ comment which White is referring to is from when Usman was first on the rise in the UFC. He claimed that after a pretty underwhelming performance, he was only operating at 30 per cent capacity, and that comment rubbed White the wrong way, leading to another one of his famous public tirades.

Although it hasn’t always been smooth for Usman in the UFC, you cannot deny that once he got the welterweight title wrapped around his waist, he turned into an elite talent and went on a memorable run as champion, defeating the likes of Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington in some of the most iconic fights in the promotion’s history.
