The DFB has announced that Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann has been called up to the Germany squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League games against Hungary and England. This comes after Bayern Munich duo Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka tested positive for Covid-19.
Both players were isolated and will leave the team hotel. A rapid antigen test was conducted on the whole national team and all members are required to test negative before travelling. The DFB also state that all confirmed contacts of both players will be tested daily.
Baumann has played 301 games across all competitions for Hoffenheim but is yet to represent Germany. Any further replacements will announced throughout the day.
Benjamin Henrichs (RB Leipzig) has replaced Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund) in the squad whilst Armel Bella-Kotchap received his first call-up to the German national team after impressing for Premier League side Southampton.
Germany coach Hansi Flick has also hinted that he could announce a wildcard nomination for the 2022 World Cup, just as Jürgen Klinsmann did with David Odonkor in 2006.
