Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has provided the latest on the fitness of Declan Rice, Gabriel Martinelli, Riccardo Calafiori and William Saliba
Mikel Arteta has provided the latest Arsenal injury news ahead of his side’s Carabao Cup clash against Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday night.
Declan Rice, Gabriel Martinelli, Riccardo Calafiori and William Saliba all picked up fresh issues in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend. Saliba was taken off at half-time on Sunday, while Rice and Calafiori were subbed off in the second half. Martinelli was spotted limping down the tunnel after he “felt something”.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Arteta confirmed Saliba is not fit enough to make the matchday squad against Brighton while Martinelli faces a late fitness test, although at the minute remains a huge doubt.
“No, we are assessing him but he won’t be involved in this match,” Arteta said when asked how long the Frenchman will be out for. Rice and Calafiori are available, however, Arteta confirmed.
On Martinelli, the Spaniard added: “Yeah, it looks as well that he’s going to be out. We have to again do some more tests and see the extent of the injury, but this game is going to be two different.”
Bukayo Saka went into the match with Palace with illness and was taken off in the second half. Arteta, though, confirmed the Englishman is fine. “Yeah, he’s going to be fine,” Arteta said.
Elsewhere, Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, Martin Odegaard and Noni Madueke remain out. Arsenal will progress into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening if they manage to get past Brighton.
