‘We need to walk the walk’ – Roberto De Zerbi on Marseille title ambitions

This season any talk of competing with Paris Saint-Germain has been muted at Olympique de Marseille this season. After all, Roberto De Zerbi and his men have been on their own journey since an August which saw the club plunged into difficulty following a dressing room fight between Jonathan Rowe and Adrien Rabiot.

But since, OM have been through one of the best periods in De Zerbi’s tenure. Four games, four wins in a row following a tight loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League in mid September.

“I don’t think we talked about titles last year. Why don’t the players talk about it? Because they don’t dream about it, or for some other reason,” said Roberto De Zerbi during a press conference attended by Get French Football News.

“They don’t talk about it openly because one team (PSG) completely dominated the league, they also dominated in Europe and reached the final of the Club World Cup. Their level is very, very high.”

But in typical De Zerbi fashion, the Italian coach left more than plenty of room for ambition until the end of the season. “Dreaming about it is something else. We all dream about it, but saying it… It’s a bit like selling something that isn’t concrete.”

“We’re trying to do everything we can to get to the end and maybe win more than one title. We’re all capable of talking the talk, but we need to walk the walk. We mustn’t talk about it and continue what we’ve been doing over the last few months.”

Les Phocéens will host Le Havre at the Stade Vélodrome tomorrow evening, with the opportunity to make it five straight wins in all competitions and extend an unbeaten run at home so far this season. With Strasbourg and PSG facing off this evening, Marseille currently sit just one point behind Les Parisiens.
