Rangers Hold Secret Talks With Ex-Man Utd Manager

Paul Scholes has hinted at Ole Gunnar Solskjær becoming the next Rangers head coach after revealing that a former Manchester United manager had held secret talks about the club’s managerial vacancy during an episode of ‘The Good, The Bad and The Football.’

The Gers are currently searching for a new boss following the sacking of Russell Martin, who endured a dismal run of results at the Ibrox Stadium. Despite being one of the main Scottish heavyweights alongside rivals Celtic, Rangers are currently languishing eighth in the Scottish Premiership, with just one win from seven games.

Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard had been linked with a return to Rangers, having previously managed the club from 2018 until 2021. But he pulled out of the running last week, with sources telling GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs that the former Aston Villa coach had decided that the timing was right for him.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has held talks about the position, but Kevin Muscat and Hearts boss Derek McInnes are both on the shortlist too. Slaven Bilic is another name that has reportedly been discussed.

But now, Scholes has revealed that the 55-time Scottish champions have reached out to another individual. The man in question apparently told the former United midfielder that talks had been scheduled shortly after their call.

“I was actually with a lad the other night who told me that he was going to meet Rangers,” Scholes said. “I’m not sure if he did but his name’s not been mentioned.

“I don’t think he was going for it. They contacted him and he’s going to meet them in London.”

After co-host Nicky Butt stated that the individual might have managed Manchester United, Scholes was then asked whether he might be referring to Solskjaer. Although his response to all questions about further details was simply, “no comment,” the Norwegian did appear to be the manager he was referring to.

Solskjaer is currently without a job, having been sacked by Besiktas following their loss to Lausanne in the Conference League play-offs in August this year. He had been head coach of the Turkish club for just over seven months, overseeing 29 games and winning 15.

However, it does not appear as though the he will be the next Rangers head coach. SunSport report that he is not in the running to replace Martin, despite his availability.
