Crystal Palace have offered Adam Wharton a new contract, amid interest from both Liverpool and Manchester United, but the England international wants a release clause in any potential deal, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
Wharton has become a key player for Palace in recent years, and it’s no surprise that his displays are attracting interest from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United. Liverpool could be in the market for a new midfielder in 2026 with Arne Slot still working out his best options in the middle of the park, while Man Utd have been linked with a new player in this position for some time now.
Keeping hold of Wharton will understandably be a priority for the Eagles, but it won’t be easy with big clubs showing an interest. Palace lost Eberechi Eze to Arsenal in the summer transfer window, while they could also see Marc Guehi head through the exit door soon, with his contract expiring in 2026.
Palace Offer Wharton New Deal Amid Liverpool and Man Utd Interest
According to a report from journalist Nixon, Palace have offered Wharton a new contract at Selhurst Park, but he wants a fixed-fee release clause if he is to put pen-to-paper. Liverpool and Man Utd are keen on Wharton, with the former leading the queue as it stands, while they are also willing to wait until next summer to try and secure his signature.
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have also been credited with an interest, and a release clause could suit all parties. Wharton is believed to be happy at Palace, but it would be easier for him to have a clause in his deal for a potential move further down the line.
The move could also be backed by chairman Steve Parish, as it’s something they implemented with Eze to allow the capital club to receive a significant fee to allow him to depart. It’s claimed that a fee between £70m and £75m could work for all parties, with Palace hopeful of reaching an agreement.
Wharton, described as ‘phenomenal’ by HLTCO, is destined to make a move to a Champions League club in the near future, and it’s up to Palace to receive a fee that they are happy with so they can find a suitable replacement for the English midfielder.
