Jaron Ennis made quick work of Uisma Lima in his super welterweight debut as he scored a brutal, first-round knockout win to collect the IBO boxing championship at 154 pounds atop a Matchroom show live on DAZN at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Saturday, the 11th of October.
Lima started the fight in an okay position, but it was not long before he unraveled from the home fighter’s unrelenting pressure. It was an Ennis uppercut that cracked Lima before follow-ups sent the Portuguese boxer to the floor for the first time. From there, Ennis gave him no time to recover.
The American sent a volley of shots to Lima and dropped him with a right hook to the cheekbone to score his second knockdown. Lima, to his credit, kept getting up, but it was already apparent that there was little chance of him boxing his way back into the bout, and, after the next sequence of pressure from Ennis, the referee stepped in to wave the fight off.
It was all over — an incredible performance from Ennis, who sent a warning shot to all the other elite super welterweights, with highlights you can watch below.

“I did what I had to do,” said Ennis. “I came to 154 and made a statement. Bring me the names.”
“I already knew [I had the power]. The more I grow up, the stronger I’m going to get. It was time to go.”
“I stayed calm behind the jab, he jumped back a little bit,” Ennis added. “Let me touch this hook to the body and touch him up top with it, and that’s the first knockdown. I think he was trying to be smart and not fight like how he usually fights because he didn’t want to get caught early. But I still caught him early.”
Ennis finished: “I knew he was hurt. I sent a big message. Y’all know who I want next. Tick, tock. Gun-shot.”
An excited Eddie Hearn, the chairman of Matchroom who represents Ennis, added: “He’s 28 years of age and this is the future of the sport of boxing. There is nobody at 154, 160, or dare I say 168 who can beat this guy. We’re coming for everybody.”
As for who’s next, Ennis said: “We want Vergil Ortiz next … everybody at 154 can get it. This is my division.”
With victory, Ennis advanced his unbeaten boxing record to 34-0 (30 KOs).
