After the 2-0 loss against Slovakia in early September, Germany had to make many changes. The following 3-1 win over Northern Ireland was a good start, but a statement victory against Luxembourg was needed – and that’s what Germany delivered.
Leon Goretzka is happy with his team’s improvements on and off the pitch:
“Julian Nagelsmann said he was satisfied with our approach. Tonight, we had good counter-pressing and we’re all happy with our performance. We took our opponents seriously, which is very important, and it helped us showing good body language.”
“Of course, we have to see the game in context, but we did a lot better than last time in early September. During the game, I was told to coordinate our pressing and to re-position some of the forwards. We played well and with high intensity, that was the key to the win tonight.”
