Director general of LFP Media Nicolas de Tavernost has set a bold target for the league’s new streaming platform Ligue 1+, aiming to reach 2.25 million subscribers by the end of the 2028–29 season.
Speaking during a masterclass at the “Demain Le Sport” festival on Tuesday, de Tavernost said the platform currently counts just over one million subscribers since its August launch — 1.026 million as of 15th September — but expects that number to climb to 1.5 million by the end of the current campaign, as reported by L’Équipe.
The veteran media executive, formerly head of M6, outlined that Ligue 1+ is projected to generate around €170 million in revenue this season, while acknowledging that the first two financial years will be difficult in terms of audiovisual income distributed to Ligue 1 clubs.
“It will be much lower than what was previously available,” de Tavernost admitted, while stressing that revenues will grow progressively as the platform expands. Earlier in the day, de Tavernost had unveiled details of Ma Super Ligue 1, a new youth-focused show co-broadcast with Gulli, as part of a wider effort to broaden Ligue 1’s media reach and rejuvenate its audience.
