Speaking in the mixed room ahead of Mainz’s opening Conference League fixture against Omonoia, coach Bo Henriksen expressed his excitement for the game in Cyprus.
“We’re really looking forward to tomorrow’s game. If we perform to our potential, we have a good chance of winning. We want to win every game.
“We’ve already shown that we can score goals. The data speaks for itself; we have the quality. It’s just a matter of time before we score.
“Even after the [Rosenborg] game, we showed what we can do in Wolfsburg. We marched, we fought. That comes from our mentality, and we’ll need that tomorrow too,” he added.
Club captain Silvan Widmer was equally thrilled to kickstart the Bundesliga club’s new adventure, claiming “European nights are special for a club like Mainz”.
“The anticipation is great. Of course, we want to go as far as possible. Tomorrow we can take the first step towards that with a win,” said the Swiss full-back.
