Bayern Munich comfortably dispatched Pafos FC 5-1 this evening, however the Cypriot side’s one moment of joy came from Mislav Oršić before the break.
The Croatian international fired a thunderbolt into the top-right corner from 30 yards which left Manuel Neuer rooted to the spot as he watched it sail into the net.
After the game, the Bavarians’ legendary shot-stopper was called into question regarding his efforts to prevent the goal by an interviewer – Neuer’s response was rather witty:
Reporter: ‘Was it [Oršić’s shot] unstoppable?’
Neuer: “Yes.”
Reporter: ‘Did you react relatively late?’
Neuer: “No. Were you a goalkeeper?”
Reporter: ‘To be honest, no.’
Neuer: “That’s a pity. The ball went straight at first and then took a different trajectory. It was coming in my direction, but then you see relatively late that it took a different trajectory to the right.
“If you played football, you’d know what I’m talking about. So that’s the answer to the question,” the 39-year-old said, with a wry smile.
It was clear that on the eve of Neuer’s 152nd Champions League appearance – which took him into the top five in the competition’s history – he refused to let the goal sink his mood!
